The Ultimate In Self-Improvement

Chapter Four

Now that we have a reasonable knowledge of the subconscious and some of the behavior we can expect of it in relation to our mind program and how it gets there, let's explore one more aspect of the conscious versus subconscious. The areas that we will discuss are the limited mind program and the comfort zone. After covering these two areas, we will then proceed to the nuts and bolts of how and why this concept works.

If our conscious wishes and desires do not match what is occurring in our life, or if we know what we want but somehow our life is not "working," then it is very possible we are suffering from a limited mind program. Our limited mind program keeps a very tight lid on what we are able to achieve, because the subconscious 88 percent of our mind exerts a great deal of pressure on our conscious mind to remain within what the subconscious identifies as its "comfort zone." Strong subconscious resistance is encountered when an individual achieves a goal which is beyond his or her subconscious expectation.

That leads us to the area called the comfort zone. This is the area where we feel most comfortable within the various areas of life and which limits us from going outside those perimeters. If we move to any significant extent beyond the level of success we have been programmed to achieve, we will experience extreme, if unconscious, discomfort. Our subconscious will actively work against success; although we will not be aware of it. Remember the subconscious has no voice. It expresses itself through feelings - a sudden wave of sensation - rather than words. Our subconscious translates any variation in the level of comfort as an "unknown" and, therefore, dangerous and begins working against our conscious mind to bring us back into the area it recognizes as safe.
